At the Veteran's Memorial Park near the Moapa Travel Plaza at Exit 75 off Interstate 15 is the Southern Paiute Veterans Association Pow Wow. The primal beat of drums pulses into the autumn desert expanse at the Pow Wow. This colorful event brings more than 150 Native American Dancers from all over the west to the Moapa River Indian Reservation for a truly ancient celebration. Dancers dressed in full Native American regalia bring motion and color to their performances. Over the weekend the dancers compete for nearly $10,000 in prizes. Spectators gather around the arena which has been blessed by tribal elders and is considered sacred.
